Event in Limburg - “Georgia meets Heerlen”

On June 3, Embassy of Georgia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Municipality of Heerlen, Company “Heerwegen” and Central and Eastern Europe Center: Communications-Unlimited.nl oragnized event „Georgian meets Heerlen”.

Ambassador of Georgia H.E. George Sharvashidze met the Mayor of Heerlen, Mr. Emile Roemer. During the meeting sides discussed possibilities of future cooperation. After the official meeting the event started in the iconic Glass Palace “Schunck”.

Mayor of Heerlen, Mr. Emile Roemer opened the event and welcomed the guests. Mayors’ speech was followed by the presentation of the Ambassador of Georgia, H.E. George Sharvashidze. His Excellency made general introduction of the country’s history, culture, tourism potential and talked about Georgia’s current position in the International level and tourism potential. Ambassador highlighted the foreign policy goals of Georgia, ongoing and already implemented important reforms and economic development. Investment and trade, energy and transport potential of Georgia were as well among the main topics of the presentation. “The Netherlands appears to be among top investor countries in Georgia for last decade, however, there is still a huge untapped potential in Dutch-Georgian cooperation and I will try my best to ensure that more Dutch companies visit Georgia and start doing business there”- said the Ambassador.

Ambassador’s presentation was followed by the presentation of the General Director of South Limburg Tourist Board, Ms. Anya Niewierra. Also founder of the company “Heerwegen”, Mr. Aloys Bruggeman RE RA, entrepreneur and the co-organizer of the event, talked about Georgia, what this country has to offer and the business relations between the Netherlands and Georgia. “We can learn from Georgia how you can use your traditions and reinvent yourself into a popular tourism destination. At the same time I am happy that Georgian delegation noticed the potential of our region and offered our entrepreneurs new possibilities of cooperation’’ – said Mr. Bruggeman. During his presentation he had a surprise video of the 6th million’s tourist of Georgia, Jasper Zwart, who welcomed audience and talked about his unique Georgian adventure. The alderman, Mr Martin de Beer was moderating this part.

Presentations were finalized with the draw of the lottery, three lucky winners won a bottle of Georgian wine.

During the reception guests had the chance to meet the Georgian delegation in person. This event presented a wonderful opportunity to bring Georgian food and culture to Heerlen during the reception by offering Georgian dishes and unique wine.

This was the first visit of the Georgian Embassy delegation to Limburg to enhance further international cooperation.  The event was attended by more than 50 business representatives - entrepreneurs, restaurants and different company representatives from Limburg, who expressed will to travel to Georgia and get acquainted with Georgian.
